A Timeless Celebration: The Wedding at Fortaleza Ozama
Honoring Colonial Charm: A Wedding Inspired by the Rich Heritage
This wedding project stands as a testament to the seamless fusion of history and design. Set within the majestic Fortaleza Ozana in Santo Domingo's Colonial Zone—recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage site—it was essential that the design honored both the grandeur of the fortress and the elegance of the occasion. Drawing inspiration from the architectural charm of a traditional casona, or colonial house, I sought to integrate elements that would make the space feel part of the area’s storied past, without overshadowing the unique beauty of the historic surroundings. The lush greenery and vibrant gardens created a natural flow between the indoor and outdoor spaces, while the use of arched doorways, elegant balconies, and rustic touches all paid homage to the classical colonial architecture.
The richness of the space was further enhanced through a carefully curated selection of materials and textures. I worked with a variety of fabrics in different prints to create a dynamic yet cohesive atmosphere, while the warmth of wood, the patina of oxidized iron, and the craftsmanship of locally made ceramics brought an undeniable sense of authenticity. Antique furniture and unique, one-of-a-kind pieces evoked the feel of a 'real house,' one that had been lived in and cherished for generations. With the collaboration of the incredible team at Deflora, we were able to infuse this historic venue with new life, transforming it into a magnificent and evocative space that felt at once timeless and deeply personal—perfectly reflecting the essence of the couple's love story.
